Yuan entered the program in 2013, having received a M.A. in philosophy from Peking University in China. Her scholarship lies at the intersection of ethics, political philosophy, and philosophy of law. She is currently working on three interrelated projects, respectively, on political authority, just war theory, and theory of rights. Her dissertation, Public War: Restoring the Political Nature of Warfare, reveals the inadequacies of reductivism that dominates recent scholarship in just war theory, and revitalizes the political approach to war.
