Before coming to Yale, Michael completed an MA in Medieval Studies at Catholic University of America and an MA in Philosophy at MUSAPh, Ludwig-Maximillian University, where he wrote his thesis on the contested reception of Aristotle in the Baghdad School and Yaḥya Ibn ‘Adī. Michael is particularly interested in philosophy in the Islamic world, especially the work of Avicenna, his reception of Greek philosophy, and Avicenna’s impact on later figures like Abū’l-Barakāt al-Baghdādī. Michael has additional interests in ancient and early modern philosophy, philosophy of religion, and the history of analytic thought.
