Isabelle Chouinard

Postdoctoral Fellow

Isabelle is a Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer in the Philosophy Department and the Classics Department at Yale University. She received her PhD in philosophy from Sorbonne University and the University of Montreal in 2021. Her main area of research is ancient ethics, with a focus on Socratic and Hellenistic schools of philosophy. She also has special interest in ancient historiography of philosophy and in feminist history of philosophy. She has published papers on Cynicism, Cyrenaic hedonism, Democritus, ancient attitudes toward mendicancy, and ancient philosophers as foreigners. She is the co-editor of the book Women’s Perspectives on Ancient and Medieval Philosophy (Springer, 2021). During her appointment at Yale (2022-2025), she is working on a new edition and French translation of the Epitome of Stoic Ethics transmitted by Stobaeus.
