Max joined the department as part of the combined Classics and Philosophy program in 2019, after completing a BA in Philosophy and Classics at Rutgers University. Max’s dissertation focuses on the goal of life, pleasure, and deliberation in Epicurus’s ethics. Further ancient philosophical interests include practical ethics in other Hellenistic schools, as well as therapeutic philosophy and protreptic. Max’s non-historical philosophical interests include reproductive ethics, philosophy of death, feminist ethics, and Jewish philosophy. Outside of philosophy, Max enjoys board games and music.
